Conference on art and artificial intelligence

The CREATE Conference in 2024 was about artificial intelligence.

With this year's CREATE Conference, we focus on how the development of artificial intelligence creates new frameworks for art, creativity and cognition. We have put together a programme where you can meet a number of speakers who all work in the borderland that artificial intelligence has created in an instant.

Right now, artificial intelligence is pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a creative and inventive human being. Or has it? There are many myths and fears out there, but even if they're exaggerated, there's no doubt that the new technology will have far-reaching consequences for our work and, in particular, for what we call creative thinking.

Destructive technology or new opportunities? At this conference, we try to get closer to an answer.

This time the food comes from Byens Gårdbutik, where the focus is on organic and good, local produce.

Speakers

OLE WINTHER – Professor of Data Science and Bioinformatics at the University of Copenhagen/Technical University of Denmark

Generative Artificial Intelligence
Ole Winther addresses how artificial intelligence is rapidly moving into areas where human creativity used to be superior to computers. He will explain how it has become possible, what consequences it may have for our work and, not least, what we can do to make the technology a useful tool.

AXEL HAANING – PhD in Science Studies and Associate Professor in the History of Philosophy and Science at Roskilde University

Creativity and Imagination - A Forgotten Dimension in Religion, Science and Philosophy
In religion and philosophy, creativity as a creating force has been surrounded by fear and fascination, devilry and idols. However, the concept of imaginatio plays an important role in now overlooked or forgotten currents of European philosophy and science. Do modern ambitions have forgotten roots here?

LOTTE PHILIPSEN – Associate Professor of Art History at Aarhus University and Head of AIIM (Aesthetics of AI Images)

AI and Visual Art: Creation, Analysis, Curation and (Mis)Use
Lotte Philipsen explains how AI technology, for better or worse, is relevant to the visual arts in four different ways:
1) as a tool that can be used in the creation of visual art
2) as a tool to analyse visual art
3) as a sorting and connecting mechanism to curate art for the viewer
4) as computer models that can (mis)use existing visual art in the training phase dataset.

CECILIE WAAGNER FALKENSTRØM – Award-winning artist and founder of ARTificial Mind, specialising in making tech art

Art and Artificial Intelligence
In her presentation, Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm will talk about how she uses technology as an artistic medium to explore the human condition. Technology and artificial intelligence are becoming more and more prevalent in our everyday lives, but how do they affect us as humans? With modern technologies such as blockchain, machine learning and AI, Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm invites the viewer or participant to reflect on what it means to be human.

Conversation Between KATRINE STENUM POULSEN – Curator at Trapholt Museum
and AXEL HAANING – PhD in Science Studies and Associate Professor of Philosophy and History of Science at Roskilde University

The Ghost in the Machine: Conversation and Dialogue with the Audience
Using examples from Trapholt's 'Connect Me' exhibition, the art educator and historian of ideas explores how artificial intelligence can open new paths for our understanding of ourselves and our connection to nature and technology.
